Matamata General Ward
The Matamata-Piako District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). four councillors will be elected from the Matamata ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Build a bypass to reduce dangerous, noisy and unsafe traffic on the main street.

    Provide active areas, meeting places, walk and cycle areas, and sports clubs for the ageing population, reducing the need to drive into town.

    Stop placing people into boxes and prevent land from becoming characterless areas without community spaces, dairies or coffee stops.

  • Continue to investigate and manage flood modelling plans.

    Ensure building consents are approved within the specified time.

    Maintain the current stock of elderly persons housing which supports the elderly.
