Matamata General Ward
The Matamata-Piako District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). four councillors will be elected from the Matamata ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Encourage more residents to apply for the Total Mobility Service that supports those with disabilities and needs.

    Review the community's needs on transport and work with the regional council to improve routes.

  • Build a bypass to remove heavy traffic from the main road in town, improving safety.

    Introduce a bus service circulating the township to reduce car numbers and encourage a real taxi service.

    Repair road surfaces and ensure edges are smooth and free of gravel and glass to encourage cycling.

  • Educate road users on their part to play in road safety and lead by example in promoting more thoughtfulness on the road.
