Matamata-Piako District Council
The Matamata-Piako District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). three councillors will be elected from the Te Aroha ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing
I am simply running for mayor as an alternative option if you are not happy with the status quo. I am your stubborn and uncompromising voice against central government. I believe our community has great potential but now needs excitement and change to move the next generations into the future. I feel at the moment we are not thinking big enough.
About me
As your Army Veteran candidate, my reputation means a lot to me and gaining public trust and respect is a critical part of maintaining my own reputation. I prioritise gaining public trust. I believe inviting the ratepayer as official shareholders in all council investments is the single biggest first step to take in a truly democratic society.
My priorities
- Make all ratepayers 50% legal shareholders in all council investments because that is democracy.
- Phase out the ratepayer by investing in freehold rental properties because that is common sense.
- Expand CCTV and implement nightly drone surveillance to become New Zealand’s most security alert community.
