The Mercury Bay Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Thames-Coromandel District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. Why I'm standing
My experience of the last three years as a community board member, elected in 2022, would be very beneficial for the community and the new board. I am also on the Cook's Beach Stormwater Engagement Group. As all new members in 2022, the inexperienced chair was unfortunately often absent, which severely compromised our efficacy. Should I be re-elected I will continue being determined, committed and dedicated to the role, therefore contributing much to the board.
About me
As a former private in the NZ Territorial Army, a volunteer then employee of the Salvation Army and a current volunteer for the Whitianga Community Response Group for the civil defence, as well as on the committee for the Whitianga Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association Inc., I am active in dedicating myself to being of service to communities in which I live. I also have a Bachelor of Health Science in Complementary Medicine.
My priorities
- Always advocate for affordable rates and challenge top-down decisions from council management.
- Complete openness and transparency as was recommended to be adopted by TCDC by the Chief Ombudsman.
- Support elderly residents and local businesses. Encourage shopping local rather than online.
