Central General Ward
The Nelson City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. four councillors will be elected from the Central ward. The other councillors will be elected from other wards or by all voters in the city. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.     Look at Trafalgar Centre as it does not seem to deliver good value for money and look for alternative operating concepts.

    Look very carefully at council’s swimming facilities as value for money seems better in other very comparable councils like Blenheim or Kapiti.

  • Develop a playground re-development plan to fix the gaps in play spaces across the city.

    Progress a cost-effective solution to ageing library and civic buildings, likely combined with a community hub for children and families.

    Support community-led events and creative initiatives that bring people together.

  • Advocate for the arts and the special role they play in defining Nelson's unique worldwide attraction as an arts centre.

    Continue the excellent work undertaken by NCC in supporting the wide range of recreational activities that are supported by all ratepayers.

    Support further enhancement of the profile and visibility of Toi Māori in Whakatu and continue to champion youth arts, especially music.
