Ōtaki Community Board

The Ōtaki Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Kapiti Coast District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of five members: four members elected by voters, and one member from the Kapiti Coast District Council.  This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Ōtaki Community Board election.

Transport

Helping communities get from A to B is a key responsibility of local government, from making sure the buses run on time to providing car parking and walking and cycling paths. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Advocate strongly for better public transport north of Ōtaki; if four years is required for trains, let's ask for a better bus service.

Continue to work with police to ensure better staffing in Ōtaki to keep roads safer.

Propose that Kapiti Coast District Council adopt road safety measures to deter street racer meet-ups that disturb the community.
