Local governments play a central role in protecting the environment, reducing waste and safeguarding biodiversity. The worsening state of New Zealand’s lakes and rivers is a major challenge for local councils, which work with regional councils in the management of water resources in their area.

Local governments play a central role in protecting the environment, reducing waste and safeguarding biodiversity. The worsening state of New Zealand’s lakes and rivers is a major challenge for local councils, which work with regional councils in the management of water resources in their area.
Continue to support the Zero Waste initiative, which recycles and repurposes many tonnes of waste from the landfill annually.
Support initiatives like Friends of the Ōtaki River (FotŌR), of which I have been an executive committee member for the past three years.
Support initiatives such as Predator Free Kapiti to reduce pests, which will help restore flora and fauna.
