Pāuatahanui General Ward
The Porirua City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of ten councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). four councillors will be elected from the Pāuatahanui ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.     Strengthen coastal and harbour resilience through sustainable planning.

    Support climate-smart infrastructure to protect homes from flooding and slips.

  • Commit the council to progress adaptation at a rate feasible for the community.

    Maintain suitable investment in civil defence to help recover from significant natural events.

    Maintain the climate change strategy to be adaptable to the ever-changing environment.

  • Develop a comprehensive managed retreat strategy to ensure that Porirua is prepared for the changes that are coming.

    Embed climate as a focus in all council projects by updating the council's procurement policy and making climate change a long-term plan strategic priority.
