Mayor of Queenstown-Lakes

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Queenstown-Lakes District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I offer decades of experience working in central government, chairing meetings, negotiating outcomes and delivering high level public representation. I am independent, open to ideas from all quarters. I am free from ties with particular interest groups and ready to deliver genuine community-wide benefits. My independence and skill-set offers the best chance to rebuild trust and pride in the council, including in its leadership. I am best placed to secure strategic results, including in Wellington.

About me

I have a keen sense of responsibility, accountability, community openness and accessibility, fairness and democracy – these are all hallmarks of a good elected representative. I have extensive government service and success in local private enterprise that offer a cross-sectoral appreciation of the district and its challenges. My political independence frees me to rally around best policy and best practice while allowing a free hand to engage with others' views.

My priorities
  1. Prepare a platform showcasing elected member priorities – a high level framework to guide council.
  2. Appoint a chief executive with a new set of requirements to deliver reform and restructuring.
  3. Establish a schedule of negotiations with government to address key strategic objectives.
