Mayor of Queenstown-Lakes

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Negotiate with central government to deliver roading project improvements and launch plans for new transit routes and new bridges.

    Reinstate ORC bus service plans for Upper Clutha and Wānaka and refine public transport options in Queenstown.

  • Establish a transport management association.

    Maintain council's controlling share in Queenstown Airport Corporation.

    Lobby government to restore the funding that was previously in place for priority bus lanes along State Highway Six.
