Mayor of Tararua

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Tararua District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

Rates are out of control and spending is out of control. This is the most critical election for years to fix it or accept the status quo as the new norm. Running to be part of the solution because moaning without trying never achieves anything. They say all evil needs is good people to do nothing; similarly, incompetence is maintained when competent people sit idle as mayhem rules.

About me

Studied politics at Victoria University and know how the system works and how to successfully lobby government as a team with other councils and through private discussions with MPs directly but need to be mayor for those doors to actually open to listen. Am a successful property investor and know how to balance books and not spend money I do not have. Always looking outside the square to get results no one else can.

My priorities
  1. Focus on water affordability, including trying to cancel water meters and their huge costs and fixing leaking dams.
  2. Lobby NZTA for funding so Horizons can have affordable bus services region-wide.
  3. Maintain and attract new and current businesses to increase employment opportunities region-wide.
