Mayor of Tararua

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Tararua District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

Change is coming fast and this is not the time to start from scratch. We need steady hands, strong relationships and practical leadership deeply connected to the community. I have raised my family here, run a farming business and served communities through storms, rising costs and constant change. We have adapted and must keep doing so. With big changes ahead in local government, people need someone they know and trust with proven relationships already in place.

About me

Together, we have faced crisis leadership every term, from the Manawatu Gorge closure to Covid and Cyclone Gabrielle. I have stood up for the community at every level, helping secure the new highway and champion our future. I know our people and work with them on real solutions. With a proven track record both locally and nationally, I get things done. As change accelerates, trusted and experienced leadership has never been more vital for the challenges ahead.

My priorities
  1. Ensure affordability by reviewing all functions, using technology and challenging how services are delivered.
  2. Advocate for better healthcare access because without it, living in the great district becomes a challenge.
  3. Promote and advocate for rural communities to access digital tools and connectivity to thrive.
