South Tararua General Ward
The Tararua District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of nine councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). four councillors will be elected from the South Tararua ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Look after water resources, including rivers and streams, to ensure they stay clean and the organisms remain healthy.

    Stop the Yinson wind turbine project.

  • Improve water management by managing drinking and wastewater carefully to protect rivers, streams and the wider environment.

    Promote sustainable recreation areas by maintaining and improving council reserves, balancing access, conservation and community enjoyment.

    Reduce fly-tipping and waste by cracking down on illegal dumping, promoting smarter recycling and reducing landfill.

  • Find better uses for plastic waste and reduce the requirement for landfills.

    Get rid of possum infestations with NO USE of 1080.
