Mayor of Taupō

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Deputy Mayor Taupo District Council

Why I'm standing

Having spent six years on council I can see the significant changes coming. I have spent much time ensuring I have a handle on how this will affect Taupō. With that background I want to ensure we retain local control over our future.

About me

I have a proven track record in leadership and governance, at the council table, in my career as a leader in police and in the not for profit social sector over more than 30 years. I bring all of that experience to the table.

My priorities

  1. Make affordability a critical focus by reviewing the entire council funding mechanism as rates are too high.
  2. Ensure council remains viable in the face of massive change in the operating environment.
  3. Enhance communication in an era where fact is hard to discern from falsehood especially online.
