Upper Harbour Local Board

The Upper Harbour Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of six members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Advocate for more use of local contractors to invest in our economy and people, keeping jobs and investment in Upper Harbour.

    Advocate for reliable water, stormwater and wastewater systems that prevent flooding and overflows and protect our harbour as we grow.

    Ensure our streets, parks and public spaces are clean and welcoming, free of litter, well-mowed and safe for families to enjoy.

  • Ensure parks and playgrounds are tidy, well-maintained, signposted, well lit and upgraded to meet population growth.

    Have simpler and reader-friendly communications around what can and cannot be recycled.

    Provide more boutique and mobile libraries to supplement the only library in the area, Albany Library.

  • Contract local companies where possible and efficient to service council facilities.

    Ensure council facilities are serviced frequently, including grass mowing and fencing around parks.

    Support the clear communication of any changes to council-provided services, such as rubbish pickup and power outages.

  • Encourage council enforcement officers, including animal control and pools, to be kind and friendly when asking residents to follow the rules.

    Manage water carefully as a public good. Prefer natural over engineered solutions requiring maintenance. Support water demand management.

    Support the council's waste plan and strategy to collect refuse, recycling and food scraps and promote local community resource recovery facilities.

  • Continue provision of rubbish, recycling and inorganic collections and fund projects focused on minimising volume of waste.

    Ensure resilience of water supply and availability of top-grade drinking water for Upper Harbour residents.

    Ensure streetscapes and parks in Upper Harbour are presentable, free of litter and leaves, and mowed regularly to a high standard.

  • Deliver reliable and sensible rubbish and recycling services that reduce landfill.

    Improve animal control and dog licensing for community safety, penalise those who do not register their dogs and maintain clean streets.

    Recognise Auckland Council governs water through Watercare, ensuring safe drinking water and effective wastewater management.
