Waikato Regional Council

Waihou General Constituency
The Waikato Regional Council makes decisions about managing resources in the region, such as air, water, soil and the coastline. It also carries out plant and pest control, helps prepare for natural disasters, and is involved in regional transport. The council is made up of 14 councillors. Councillors are elected to represent constituencies (areas in the region). two councillors will be elected from the Waihou constituency. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Prioritise local body role as our community champions to lobby on our behalf, within legislative limits.

    Provide for education, health, habitat, employment, housing, infrastructure and civil respect for the future children and mokopuna.

  • Build and construct relating to the expansion of industrial sectors based on population growth like Morrinsville.

    Build tourism centred around the new Lord of the Rings movie.

    Import and assemble by leveraging port and rail infrastructure.

  • Increase council initiatives for youth training in environmental management.

    Work with local businesses to promote sustainability goals such as waste and pollutant reduction.

    Work with the tourism industry to promote and create ecotourism ventures.
