Waikato Regional Council
The Waikato Regional Council makes decisions about managing resources in the region, such as air, water, soil and the coastline. It also carries out plant and pest control, helps prepare for natural disasters, and is involved in regional transport. The council is made up of 14 councillors. Councillors are elected to represent constituencies (areas in the region). two councillors will be elected from the Waihou constituency. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing
The problem I see is that too many people who run for council have nothing to offer. They simply look at the paycheck rather than do their own research, come up with their own solution and follow through on what they promise. They simply throw money around expecting those with their nets out to produce results for them.
About me
My first job was washing rental cars. I then did an electrical apprenticeship but could not bear charging hundreds of dollars to flick a switch. I invested what I had into education with a focus on science, simply to learn there are no opportunities and that politics is a dirty sport. Global politics is where I really shined and I want to cash in that political capital for my community.
My priorities
- Build train stations at Morrinsville, Matamata and others to leverage existing infrastructure.
- Invest in culverts and pipes so people can get their backyards back.
- Provide spring water to taps. If the Romans could do it, so can we; it is about good health.
