Waipā-King Country General Constituency
The Waikato Regional Council makes decisions about managing resources in the region, such as air, water, soil and the coastline. It also carries out plant and pest control, helps prepare for natural disasters, and is involved in regional transport. The council is made up of 14 councillors. Councillors are elected to represent constituencies (areas in the region). two councillors will be elected from the Waipā-King Country constituency. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Encourage communities to use and support inter-town public transport, promoting reliable options that connect people across the region.

    Plan safer, smarter freight and transport routes to cut congestion, protect communities and keep goods moving efficiently.

  • Increase public safety for all public transport.

    Reduce the size of buses and the size of the fleet to better fit the patronage.

    Review public transport policies to ensure best bank for buck and fit for purpose.

  • Advocate strongly to increase public transport services and associated patronage, particularly in the high-growth parts of the region.

    Ensure the maritime services budget and associated resourcing keep pace with the growth in recreational boating throughout the region.

    Work closely with territorial authorities and government when needed to continue expansion of the urban and rural cycleway network throughout the region.

  • Fast track the four-lane road network between Auckland, Tauranga and Waikato.

    Pause electrification of the bus fleet until a full business case is completed.
