Waikouaiti Coast Community Board

The Waikouaiti Coast Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Dunedin City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Advocate for improvements to road safety on SH1—Waikouaiti main street and Blueskin Bay.

    Continue to press for improvements to the bus service to the North Coast—increased frequency and affordability.

    Support development of cycleways.

  • Advocate for an improved bus service for the area with more frequent weekday service. Keep fares affordable with no zones.

    Keep road speeds low in villages to protect children.

    Support cycle network through North Coast with improved connectivity and cycle safety.

  • Invest in local festivals, sports facilities and grounds.

    Maintain the Blueskin Library and Book Bus.
