Why I'm standing

I am afraid that with the push for regionalisation and the culling of small councils by central government, rural towns and districts like Waimate will be left in the lurch and may stagnate or, worse, go backwards. I believe Waimate is a great town and deserves the best, hence a strong, vocal, well researched council with good community support and communication is essential.

About me

I have lived in Waimate for over 30 years and have raised my family here. My wife and I have been and are very involved in the community, chairing numerous organisations. I have been an elected councillor for the past three years and have experience in local government. I am still chair of Friends of Kelcey's Bush, Waimate Christmas in the Square and the Waimate Ministers Association. I have chaired Community Link and school BOTs.

My priorities
  1. Prudent financial spending of the council attempting to keep rates down to a minimum.
  2. Increase open and honest communication between the council and the community and district.
  3. Build strong partnerships between council, neighbouring councils, businesses and the community.
