Utilities and services
Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

Introduce civics information workshops or vlogs for the public to understand how functions work at council and support the Local Waters Done Well transition.
Lobby for a waste management model that is supported and led by the community with council-supported infrastructure, following the successful Xtreme Waste model.
Maintain support for the good work animal control and licensing teams do and support exploring a shared council system to reduce costs effectively.
Improve rubbish and recycling services, reducing landfill by supporting reuse and composting initiatives.
Maintain clean, safe public spaces with regular street cleaning and responsible animal management that protects people and wildlife.
Provide safe, clean drinking water and wastewater systems that protect waterways and support healthy communities.
