Waitaki District Council
The Waitaki District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of ten councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). six councillors will be elected from the Ōamaru ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing
I'm running for a council position because I believe our business person orientated council have lost the plot. Hiding behind closed doors isn't transparency, and the ratepayers are starting to or have lost confidence in our council.
About me
I'm a blue collar worker with a wealth of knowledge from different types of jobs that have required a logical commonsense person to get the job done.
My priorities
- Work with council to reduce rates with a needs-based approach.
- Work with council to remove as much authority from unelected bureaucracy.
- Introduce policy to write out policy for better understanding.
