Waitara Community Board

The Waitara Community Board represents your local community and advocates to New Plymouth District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of five members: four members elected by voters, and one member from the New Plymouth District Council.  This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Waitara Community Board election.

Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Bring back main street cleaning teams because clean streets lead to pride in the community and reduce the risk of vandalism.

Retain and reduce the risk of water supply to ratepayers by having multiple water sources to reduce this risk.

Support utilities and their supply on a user-pays basis to reduce water cost for elderly people and those living alone.
