Mayor of Whanganui

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Whanganui District Council mayoral election.

A New Generation of Leadership

| Whanganui district councillor

Why I'm standing

I am running for mayor to bring a new generation of bold, decisive, and energetic leadership to Whanganui. As the mayoral candidate with the most local government experience after three terms as a councillor, I am ready to hit the ground running. I am a confident leader, clear and resolute in my values. I'm embedded in our community. I love this city and district and I want to see us all succeed.

About me

I have experience that means I'm comfortable leading and listening from a variety of settings, from schools, to community organisations, rural halls, to board rooms, rest homes, and marae. I believe strongly in freedom of speech and expression and promote constructive disagreement as a strength, not a weakness. As deputy chair of a school board, chair of Age Concern Whanganui, former DHB board member, advocate, and sports coordinator, I am embedded in our community.

My priorities
  1. Advocate strongly at central government level to attract investment into the district.
  2. Establish the 'Invest for Whanganui Fund' to provide a long-term source of income.
  3. Introduce a civic leadership programme for young people and grow democratic engagement.
