Mayor of Whangārei

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Whangarei District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I believe there needs to be a return to fiscal responsibility, community empowerment and councillor rebranding ringing in a fresh start for Whangarei.

About me

Our community needs change. I offer a bridge, unbound by party lines, to truly listen. Driven to contribute, my experience extends to arts, environment, disability and business advocacy. I founded New Zealand's first Business Crisis Support Group. Together, we can rebuild trust and address some of the pain points we have experienced, eg rates increases. As someone who has experienced success, I have lived through homelessness, poverty and hate crimes, and I pledge empathy, collaboration and integrity.

My priorities
  1. Rebrand the role of councillor to rebuild trust and commitment to serving the public interest.
  2. Rebrand Māoridom so it becomes a positive force rather than a negative one due to bad press.
  3. Audit everything.
