Woodend-Sefton Community Board
The Woodend-Sefton Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Waimakariri District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. Why I'm standing
I worry about social isolation in our community, and not just among our elders, some of whom haven't got more than their pension to spend on getting about. For young people it can be frighteningly lonely, and for their parents, there's very little free support. I believe our council can do better connecting people with one another through community-led initiatives, more cultural events and free or koha-based services.
About me
I'm a qualified sociologist, registered life coach, trustee of Te Kōhaka o Tūhaitara Trust and secretary/treasurer for the Woodend Community Association. I have over 10 years experience running not-for-profit organisations, renowned there for my advocacy for human rights and public health. I once co-founded a successful (award-winning) sustainable business and have a passion for coaching more sustainable business leaders. My Dad was a councillor for this region so I aspire to follow in his footsteps.
My priorities
- Combat isolation across the district with more public transport and community-led mobility solutions.
- Ensure there are enough community emergency hubs with trained volunteers to help in any disaster.
- Prevent river contamination with more comprehensive fencing and policing of freshwater policies.
