The Ashburton District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of nine councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Five councillors will be elected from the Ashburton ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing

I am running for council to work with the community by keeping them involved in decisions of the town. It's the people in the community that live here, it's our town, we can all join together to keep it a great place to live. I would like to see more opportunities created for youth, great jobs, and things for young people to do so they don't have to move away to better themselves.

About me

I grew up in Ashburton, moved away at age 18 and moved back at age 29. I have seen many great changes to the town that are amazing. I would like to see the modernising of the town continue, as well as keeping community spirit alive.

My priorities
  1. Introduce things to do for youth and all ages, example, controlled dances and community events.
  2. Introduce more public transport so people can move around the town easy if they don't have any.
  3. Continue to build community involvement by keeping the public informed.
