Climate change and resilience
Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.
Greenhouse gases and climate change is a work in progress, but we need to recognise the huge effort being made by the rural sector.
Obviously need to comply with government policy.
Need to incentivise and encourage building owners to strengthen building or rebuild.
Establish an effective plan for climate change, by being prepared for what is to come in the future and continuing updated research.
Keep Civil Defence plans and resources to an excellent standard to be prepared when a natural disaster may strike.
Update and regularly check earthquake strengthening on all buildings to ensure safety of people. Earthquake strengthening is ongoing.
