Ashburton Ward
The Ashburton District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of nine councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Five councillors will be elected from the Ashburton ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Create a range of events for all ages so that everyone can enjoy and utilise all facilities that are in the town.

    Ensure that all facilities are being used on a regular basis and making money.

  • Have always had a philosophy, if you create great facilities we will create an exciting district to live and play.

    We have good sporting facilities but would support any realistic new sporting ideas.

    Liquor licensing. What is the right ratio of liquor stores to population? I would be hesitate to see any further growth in liquor outlets.

  • Develop grants for artists of all ages for theatre, film and music or art.

    Advertise grants so they are known more widely in the community to get a diverse range of people receiving the grants.
