Ashburton District Council

Ashburton Ward
The Ashburton District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of nine councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Five councillors will be elected from the Ashburton ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Create shelters and places for the homeless to be while helping them to find permanent housing, and the community helping each other.

    Ensure housing quality is kept to a high standard, for people to live in healthy, warm, and hygienic standards.

    Ensure availability of affordable housing for people to be able to live in a happy, safe, warm environment.

  • Urban spread into our productive farm land is a concern so we must first encourage the maximum use of land first within our town boundary.

    We need to create great open spaces in both urban and rural areas that encourage people to visit and enjoy.

    Social housing, homelessness is government responsibility. Housing affordability is a huge issue that is denying young people the change to buy.
