Ashburton District Council

Ashburton Ward
The Ashburton District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of nine councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Five councillors will be elected from the Ashburton ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Ensure the public have a voice and are kept well informed with plans for the town, it's the public that live here, it's our town.

    Engage with ethnic communities by keeping them involved with the town and making them welcome and a part of their new home.

  • Have monthly meeting/survey with the community to get their feedback.

  • We are a diverse community that we need to engage with all groups. Everyone has the same opportunity to be represented around the table.

    The size of Council was recently reviewed. There is no need for change. Obviously public engagement is important as are reacting to surveys.

    We need to have a council that continues to operate efficiently and effectively maintaining a quality service to our population base.
