Auckland Council

Albert-Eden-Puketāpapa Ward
The Auckland Council makes strategic decisions for Auckland on public transport, urban planning, environmental protection and other big issues. The council provides funding to local boards to provide public services in their areas, and manages council-controlled organisations which provide infrastructure, such as public transport, water and sewerage. The councillors and mayor make up the governing body, which shares governance of Auckland Council with the 21 local boards. The governing body is made up of 20 councillors plus the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in Auckland). Two councillors will be elected from your ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Auckland Council election.

Why I'm standing

I have served the Albert-Eden-Puketāpapa community since I came to Auckland as a refugee nine years ago – my family lost everything, and this community helped us build a life here. I want to serve as councilor to give back to the city that has given my family so much. I want to live in a prosperous, diverse, and safe city.

About me

My experience working with local boards advocating for vulnerable and young Aucklanders will enable me to be effective at the council table, bringing about fresh, positive change for our community. I lead the registered charity Aotearoa Africa Foundation, working with youth, migrant and refugee communities to enable them to be successful. I will champion housing accessibility, improved transport options, council efficiency, and climate action.

My priorities
  1. Acting local, but thinking global on climate action.
  2. Making Auckland Council decision making accessible for all communities.
  3. Prioritising accessible public and active transport options for all communities and town centers.
