Auckland Council

Manurewa-Papakura Ward
The Auckland Council makes strategic decisions for Auckland on public transport, urban planning, environmental protection and other big issues. The council provides funding to local boards to provide public services in their areas, and manages council-controlled organisations which provide infrastructure, such as public transport, water and sewerage. The councillors and mayor make up the governing body, which shares governance of Auckland Council with the 21 local boards. The governing body is made up of 20 councillors plus the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in Auckland). Two councillors will be elected from your ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Auckland Council election.

Why I'm standing

I'm concerned politics is coming before people in council's decision making which is distracting and preventing us from achieving our Auckland Plan commitments for future generations, particularly in the areas of urban planning, climate action and transport. In addition, there is only one woman at council representing South Auckland from Ōtāhuhu to Franklin, I wish to continue to participate in policy development bringing a voice for women, children and equity.

About me

I have 12 years experience in super city governance, nine of those years on a local board as chair and deputy, three as councillor. Since my 2019 election I have been provided with many opportunities to participate in policy development where I was the only councillor that could bring the voice of the Manurewa-Papakura ward to the discussion. I have proven to pragmatically collaborate across political parties to achieve outcomes for Manurewa and Papakura.

My priorities
  1. Investing in the provision of equitable funding and assets across the region particularly the South.
  2. Review council's business model to ensure it's not superfluous but focused on ratepayer priorities.
  3. Ensuring accountability from council-controlled organisation boards to the governing body.
