Auckland Council

Manurewa-Papakura Ward
The Auckland Council makes strategic decisions for Auckland on public transport, urban planning, environmental protection and other big issues. The council provides funding to local boards to provide public services in their areas, and manages council-controlled organisations which provide infrastructure, such as public transport, water and sewerage. The councillors and mayor make up the governing body, which shares governance of Auckland Council with the 21 local boards. The governing body is made up of 20 councillors plus the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in Auckland). Two councillors will be elected from your ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Auckland Council election.

Why I'm standing

With nearly 40% Māori-Pacific living in our ward, we need diversity on the local board and a strong advocate to ensure fair, just and sensible decisions are made at Council to ensure all of Manurewa, Takaanini and Papakura thrive! Although we are three different suburbs we share many social issues; we need an urgent strategy to prevent and end youth homelessness and this is only one of the many our marginalised and vulnerable face everyday.

About me

25 years living in Manurewa, a single mother of six daughters, and my grandson now also attends school locally – we live and breathe local. Current Chairperson of Waimahia Intermediate's Board of Trustees, Board member of my Church Board and Church ECE, E Tu Union member; I see, I know, I live the struggles many of our families face every day – it is time for a strong, genuine advocate to put all people first!

My priorities
  1. Invest in our youth – a transformative youth space managed by our rangatahi, safe and sustainable!
  2. Collaborate with all diverse community leaders to listen to what our community priorities are.
  3. No new alcohol stores in our vulnerable communities and regulate current to prevent more alcohol harm.
