The Central Otago District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 11 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). One councillor will be elected from the Teviot Valley ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Continue the work started on rezoning our suburbs to allow higher density so we can protect our urban spaces.

    Seek opportunities to collaborate, find funding from the government or external sources, work with Central Otago Affordable Housing Trust.

    Develop the spatial plan to have thoughtful streetscape design to allow for mobility, walkability, heritage, and sustainability.

  • Increase the available land supply through zoning changes to encourage the construction of new dwellings throughout Central Otago.

    Ensure that all council housing meets central government's new standards such as the Healthy Homes legislation.

    Seek to improve visibility at pedestrian crossings throughout Central by reducing foliage and removing parking within 3 meters either side.
