Christchurch City Council

Innes Ward
The Christchurch City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 16 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). One councillor will be elected from the Innes ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Christchurch City Council election.

Why I'm standing

Christchurch is on the cusp of something great! We need a new energy and common-sense in our councillors to ensure the city can achieve all the amazing things it should at this key time in our rebuild. There has to be better engagement with those who live and work here, we have to inspire people, and restore faith in the council. I believe I can be a key part of the team that does that.

About me

I was a city councillor from 2013 to 2016 and chose not to stand at the end of that term. However, I have been on the Papanui Innes Community Board for nine years, staying well-connected with local and city-wide issues. I am totally independent and unlike other candidates, not beholden to any political party. I speak frankly and don't play games, instead I get on with things and don't dance around the tough issues.

My priorities
  1. Better plannng. Ensure Christchurch is ready for whatever is ahead, taking everyone with us, positively.
  2. Review transport and roading – quality, maintenance, corridors, accessibility. Consider passenger rail.
  3. Assess the effectiveness of the city council as an organisation. Is it fit for purpose?
