Eastbourne Community Board

The Eastbourne Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Hutt City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of five members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Roll out native trees and shrubs to provide stabilisation to slip prone hillsides.

    Advocate for expanded pest control throughout the bays.

    Promote household water tanks via the council at a subsidised rate.

  • Clean our beaches with regular beach clean ups along all of our coastline.

    Clean our streams and protect aquatic wild life by keeping stormwater out of them.

    Accelerate efforts to reduce weeds in our parks and reserves.

  • Reduce contamination of groundwater and rivers. Stop water bottling. Reduce water waste and promote water collection in urban environment.

    Promote pest control and reduction exotic species. Protect native species, reduce environmental damage land and sea.

    All the R's especially construction waste, close the loop on packaging, create measures for community environmental footprint.

  • Reduce reliance on cars around the bays by supporting the construction of the Tupua Horo Nuku shared path and improving public transport.

    Support regional council to maintain the network of walking tracks in the Northern Forest.

    Support regional council with its planting programme, especially around the Parangarahu Lakes.

  • Establish council recycling bins at Days Bay beach and the pavilion.

    Advocate for greater restrictions on the use of plastic in food packaging.

    Support native forest planting efforts to promote biodiversity and ecosystem restoration.

  • Provide strong support for the pest eradication and control programmes already under way in the community and East Harbour Regional Park.

    Support community initiatives to protect rare bird species such as the banded dotterels and little blue penguins/korora.

    Work to ensure that our beaches and harbour provide safe and clean recreational opportunities for people, and support native wildlife.

  • Consider the environment on a local, national and global level.

    Dedicated kitchen waste collection — reduces the quantity of waste entering our landfill, and also reduces national methane production.
