Grey District Council

Northern Ward
The Grey District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of eight councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). One councillor will be elected from the Northern ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Grey District Council election.

Why I'm standing

I believe ratepayers in the Northern Ward are often overlooked for basic services. Broken footpaths, moss along the streets, along with blocked gutters that flood after heavy rain, give a tired and neglected impression of the town. Issues across the Northern Ward that are often overlooked at council table. My goal, to work with passionate residents who have a vision for their community and drive to make change. Community led and supported by council.

About me

I have lived in Runanga most of my life, and am actively engaged in a number of community organisations. Currently serving as a committee member on the local Grey District/Mawhera Business and Promotions Assn, West Coast Society of Arts, WC Sports Awards, and Greymouth Heritage Trust. Co-founded Techspace community tech centre, and trustee of the new Runanga Community Trust. I offer governance experience, a strategic and sensible approach, and believe in a balanced community-led approach.

My priorities
  1. A review of the rating system. What alternatives are there from the current QV property valuations?
  2. Review council services like libraries, in view of partnering with community for improved outcomes.
  3. Implement change for improving road and footpath maintenance.
