Hastings-Havelock North General Ward
The Hastings District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 15 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Seven councillors will be elected from the Hastings-Havelock North ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Support diligent spending on municipal buildings.

  • Support community events in low socio-economic areas and encourage diverse performances from schools and music/dance groups.

    Ensure pools stay open during the summer season and indoor pools all year round and that they are available to all residents and ratepayers.

    Ensure parks have family friendly areas ie BBQs, tables and plenty of rubbish bins. Have regular or daily cleaning of parks and surrounds.

    Support community events in low socio-economic areas and encourage diverse performances from schools and music/dance groups.

    Ensure pools stay open during the summer season and indoor pools all year round and that they are available to all residents and ratepayers.

    Ensure parks have family friendly areas ie BBQs, tables and plenty of rubbish bins. Have regular or daily cleaning of parks and surrounds.

  • Meet the needs and aspirations of communities, and limit the financial burden on ratepayers through suburb-specific community and funding plans.

    Leverage council-owned resources for local enjoyment and tourism by completing the Tomoana Showgrounds, Civic Square and Splash Planet plans.

    Continue to enable arts, culture and heritage initiatives by working to connect organisers to external funders.

  • Support sporting facilities, such as the Hawke's Bay Regional Sports Park and maintaining of council sports grounds to the present standards.

    Support local arts and culture by encouraging the use the newly opened Hastings Municipal Buildings for a wide range of community activities.

    Review the libraries to see how fit they are for the current digital age and needs of the community for the next 20 or so years.

  • Keep making our parks and reserves an attraction and a feature of Hastings.

    Everyone enjoys community events and we all need to get out there and celebrate more together, it promotes self esteem and makes people proud.

    Mitre 10 Park has developed into an international venue. I would like to see us further enhance cricket, bowls and tennis facilities.

  • Create a rainbow festival. Expand on what is already done via the library to educate public and provide opportunities for LGBTQIA+ to thrive.

    Develop initiatives to support elder engagement in social, physical and recreational activities to enhance mental and physical wellbeing.

    Develop more opportunities for public engagement in/at Hastings and Havelock North parks and reserves, eg kite day or picnic in the park etc.

  • Encourage the active use of council facilities to be available to everyone. We can all work together.

  • Develop our parks and museums etc to reflect the community we live in. Highlight local talent in events, creative initiatives etc.

    Encourage celebration of the different. Enhance the council policy of recognising language weeks in council.

    Be more prudent with liquor licensing.
