Climate change and resilience
Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.
Reinforce our current physical infrastructure especially concerning storm water resilience measures. Our current environment is changing.
Continue to work with and encourage building owners that own earthquake prone buildings to strengthen.
Look into adapting to a low carbon economy with central government assistance, as we are a rural based district with farming driving our economy.
Continue to actively include climate change action into everything council does. Complete our climate action strategy.
Continue to lobby for realistic requirements to encourage owners of Earthquake-Prone Buildings NZ to strengthen beautiful buildings rather than demolish.
Continue with council facilitating community response to emergencies with our social agencies. Locals helping local!
