Marlborough District Council

Marlborough Sounds General Ward
The Marlborough District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 14 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Marlborough Sounds ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Marlborough District Council election.

Why I'm standing

I love the Marlborough region. My family has thrived here. In the Sounds Ward, these more frequent intense weather events are causing serious problems to our transport infrastructure. This is being exacerbated in many areas by forestry operations. I know how reliant the people of the Marlborough Sounds Ward are on the roading infrastructure. If I am elected as a councillor, I will support the Sounds community in any way I can.

About me

I have lived in Marlborough since I was 12. My wife and I have three children. I worked for the Marlborough District Council for 16.5 years running the weed team in the biosecurity section. My wife and I established a weed control contracting business seven years ago. We have a small farm at Okaramio. I enjoy being part of the local community. I have been the chairperson of the Okaramio Residents Association for several years.

My priorities
  1. Focus on upgrading roading infrastructure in the Marlborough Sounds Ward. Make them more resilient.
  2. Support key infrastructure projects which benefit all ratepayers, eg Picton Ferry Terminal Upgrade.
  3. Support all initiatives to control weeds and animal pests in the region.
