Marlborough District Council

Marlborough Sounds General Ward
The Marlborough District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 14 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Marlborough Sounds ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Marlborough District Council election.

Why I'm standing

Marlborough's a stunning place! However, we face challenges from the impacts of climate change to the changes proposed by government. Robert J Kennedy said, "The future is not a gift, it is an achievement, every generation helps make its own future." I want to help make our future for Marlborough. To ensure that the decisions which are made, are based on what is best for the people of Marlborough and future generations.

About me

I've a long association with Marlborough, both visiting immediate family and, since 2019, as a ratepayer. Previously I have lived in Picton while managing the region's i-SITEs. I have backgrounds in both tourism and construction. I've worked alongside several councils throughout NZ. I've experience in governance roles at local and national levels, plus management, leadership, and have excellent people, and communication skills. In resolving issues, I look for practical and common-sense solutions.

My priorities
  1. Any rates increase be minimal, recognising financial circumstances/cost of living crisis we face.
  2. Seek solutions with forestry sector ensuring operations minimise water degradation and usage.
  3. Reduce compliance costs (building consent) to increase housing affordability within the region.
