Matamata-Piako District Council

Matamata General Ward
The Matamata-Piako District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Four councillors will be elected from the Matamata ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Fund community grant to support the natural environment in our district.

    Invest in storm and waste water systems to preserve and improve the water quality in our district.

  • Removal of introduced predators and pest plants will allow our native wildlife to flourish and improve yields for farmers.

    Support for riparian planting to improve water quality and reduce run off.

    Work towards para kore (zero waste).

  • Commit to a policy to minimise food waste with the use of household food waste bins.

    Open Resource Recovery Centres to reduce and recycle inorganic waste.

    Approve a policy to work towards a vision of zero waste.

  • Continue to develop our current reserves and wildlife areas to improve the quality of life for our unique biodiversity. Ban 1080.

    Update and improve reticulation and wastewater for the future, by stopping Three Waters and investing in infrastructure.
