Nelson Park Ward
The Napier City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). Four councillors will be elected from the Nelson Park ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Support the local economy by promoting Napier as a top-class tourist destination to New Zealand and to the world.

    Support current and future programmes that encourage Napier youth into further education and training.

    Support and expand Napier festivals such as the Art Deco Festival and Matariki that bring local and international tourism to Napier.

  • Provide support to increase vibrancy and footfall in shopping precincts which are community hubs.

    Work collaboratively with industry, Hawke's Bay Tourism and businesses to see our tourism sector, including hospitality, open and receiving visitors.

    Advocate at a national level to encourage more local investment and support for both new and existing business, eg access to talent.

  • Monitor and evaluate footfall in the CBD to ascertain how well our central city businesses are doing, providing advice where requested.

    Meet with our youth council to get their input into problems and possible solutions with regard to youth unemployment.

  • Continue implementation of the disability strategy, advocating for those with disabilities.
