Onekawa-Tamatea Ward
The Napier City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). Two councillors will be elected from the Onekawa-Tamatea ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Increase land supply and rezone to support and encourage medium density housing development.

    Improve current council housing for the elderly and enquire if there is need for further council housing development.

    Explore and try new or innovative urban spaces and streetscapes than we currently have.

  • Encourage council to work collaboratively with housing providers and developers to ensure quality warm dry homes for all.

    Protect our most vulnerable residents by retaining council senior/retirement housing and do it well.

    Develop a regional plan that identifies and enables future growth in the right areas.

  • Keep council's retirement housing portfolio, upgrade and grow it.

    Ensure a robust new district plan is developed to enable smart growth and development without impacting others unduly.

    Make sure council is enabling and helpful when dealing with its consenting and regulatory functions.
