Northland Regional Council

Coastal Central General Constituency
The Northland Regional Council makes decisions about managing resources in the region, such as air, water, soil and the coastline. It also carries out plant and pest control, helps prepare for natural disasters, and is involved in regional transport. The council is made up of nine councillors. Councillors are elected to represent constituencies (areas in the region). One councillor will be elected from the Coastal Central constituency. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Fund community-led pest management and biodiversity protection throughout the region.

    Work with the Department of Conservation, landowners and tangata whenua to achieve healthy forests in Northland – pest control, biosecurity, ecosystem management.

    Ensure environmental incident responses are rapid and effective.

  • Engage the knowledge and expertise of local experts to expand pest management projects, enhance monitoring and provide a response capability.

    Adopt an escalation policy with constant and/or serial offenders. Engage, educate, warn and prosecute.

    Embrace technological innovation to enhance quality and quantity monitoring capability particularly in remote or difficult to access areas.
