Ōwhango-National Park Community Board

The Ōwhango-National Park Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Ruapehu District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members: five members elected by voters, and one councillor from the Ruapehu District Council.  This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. From parks and libraries to museums and art galleries, councils can be a key supporter of sporting, recreational and cultural events that bring communities to life. Community facilities, including sports grounds and town halls, are often owned and run by councils.

    Setup digital displays of current weather, road, great walks, tracks that are currently open or closed around Ruapehu tourist sites.

  • Continue to develop Ruapehu arts communities in their own right and part of Destination Ruapehu.

    Continue to promote Ruapehu as an event destination, ensuring that all events are safe, image-appropriate and well-managed.

    Work with iwi, council, local agencies and DOC to maintain and develop current and new facilities to enable access to our greater outdoors.
