Ōwhango-National Park Community Board

The Ōwhango-National Park Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Ruapehu District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members: five members elected by voters, and one councillor from the Ruapehu District Council.  This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Continue to support Three Waters implementation, including effective process checks and balances. We cannot afford the status quo.

    Develop better processes to reduce waste including formal processes for soft plastics and discouraging single use plastic containers.

    Ensure that local animal control policies are fit for purpose. Continue to advocate for review of the outdated Dog Control Act.

  • Introduce an energy saving waste plastic recycle line plastic recycling granular machine. This will process 100 – 1000kg per hour.

    Introduce a dog and owner profile that you can login and see your dog's current status as a pet, hunting or working dog. Make payments etc.

    Introduce a vacuum sewerage system to areas near parks or reserves where sewerage will impact the biodiversity in the area.
