Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Invest in plans that contribute to the circular economy i.e. high-quality resources from waste. Reduce waste through recycling projects.

Oppose Three Waters as this takes the powers from local body to govern the waters in their region. Privatisation of water is unacceptable.

Provide support to our townships. Upkeep of our townships even if these are expensive. Protecting our historic towns is paramount.

  • Three Waters – high risk, high consequence decisions that are hard to undo warrant serious consideration of benefits. I oppose proposed reform.

Improve communication on council projects, utilities and services so our community are clear on what to expect in their area of concern.

It's a dogs life too! Continue to consider pet friendly environs where furry members of our communities access and enjoy the district too.

  • Lead the rest of NZ by launching of a reusable container scheme, so that we may learn and get better at honouring our natural resources.

Share the learning from our reusable container scheme with other councils around the country and the world.

Share the understanding that by each one of us doing a little bit around our home, we are all better off.
