Mayor of Ruapehu

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Ruapehu District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I believe I have the best experience in both local government and business to lead our district through what will be a very tough three years. Other candidates bring strength also, but it is the combined experience I have, that will safeguard residents and ratepayers from significant and negative change.

About me

I was a registered valuer and did not approach valuing any property with a pre-conceived idea. I approach everything with an open mind, where any number of outcomes are possible. It is only through research and looking at the various arguments, that the best decision can be made for all concerned.

My priorities
  1. Encourage camaraderie and understanding between elected representatives, to create mutual respect.
  2. Ensure any rate rises over the next three years are affordable to current residents and ratepayers.
  3. To have our unemployment rate lower to and the median wage increase to the national average.
Current role

Taumarunui and Ōhura Ward Councillor.
